voguemagazine @phyllis_posnick's first encounter with #IrvingPenn, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 92, was as an assistant. Later, Alex Liberman, then the editorial director of Condé Nast, would pair her with Penn (and Helmut Newton, among others). Though it took time to build trust and a way of working together—which they did for more than 20 years—the images created by this dream team have made their mark on the world. Tap the link in our bio for some of the lessons Posnick learned from working with Penn. Photographed by #IrvingPenn, Vogue, March 2007.

Photographer @RyanMcginleyStudios was on the ground to capture the scene at #Pride; see all photos in the link in our bio.

voguemagazine Though the communes of Mendocino County are long gone, their legacy has shaped the culture of the progressive, nature-led community that has grown up in their place. “Women taught each other, empowered each other,” Laurie York says. “It’s a dandelion effect. That early consciousness-raising was a time of planting seeds. They blew into the wind and spread everywhere.” In honor of #Pride 2017, Vogue photographed women of all ages and definitions, coast-to-coast, who live their truth fearlessly and beautifully. voguemagazine @070shake started writing poetry before she got into making music. She’s aware of being a role model and of modeling the payoff of going deep, allowing lyricism to connect and even possibly change people, the way that she was changed by her own appreciation for artists like Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys. It’s funny, because sometimes when you write, you have to dig out things you don’t even wanna talk about, she says. It’s such a good practice for figuring out who you are. voguemagazine @madinraylopez, who rejects the binary construct of the English language in favor of allowing individuals to elect their preferred gender pronoun (or PGP) personally uses they instead of he or she. voguemagazine @_project_q_ is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit dedicated to using hair as a form of social justice. “While giving free haircuts to queer homeless youth does not solidify a home for them, it does give them the self-esteem they need to know they deserve a home,” reads the organization’s manifesto, which goes on to explain that “more and more people of all genders show up looking for the perfect ‘do’ ” as well as that “having self-esteem is what will help them maneuver the world with their head on their shoulders.” Over 700 young people have thus far benefited from this service.
